Osaka city central public hall, often referred to as Kokaido, was completed in 1918. This flashy retro building is the symbol of Nakanoshima and a a famous landmark in Osaka. Its architecture screams Meiji, and at night its Neo-Renaissance design looks even more impressive thanks to masterful illumination. There is a retro cafe on the basement level.
the shrine's history dates back to the ninth century, and in more modern times, it was center of bunraku puppet theatre culture. It provides shade and a quiet oasis of green for you to rest in during your stroll around the Yodoyabashi area.
An important during the Edo period, this temple was a central part of the thriving merchant culture of Osaka, and when Osaka's first grand north-south boulevard was built under the supervision of Mayor, it was the named Midosuji. because this temple could be seen from the road. the current Tsumura Betsuin temple is a modern structure but when you ascend the staircase from Midosuji Blvd. its awesome scale will astonish you.
This small art museum is a modern uiolding displaying a selection of important works. Its initial collection was donated by Teiichi Yuki, a gourmet chef who also enjoyed Japanese tea ceremony.
An old stone bridge crossing over two rivers and the Nakanoshima riverine island, Naniwabashi is often called the "lion bridge" because of the pairs of gallant lion statues installed at both ends. Originally a wooden bridge, it was later redesigned in the current manner to blend with the surrounding urban landscape and provide a suitable entrance Nakanoshima Park.
A little hard to find, this tucked-away temple is best approached from between the buildings on the road on its south side. It enshrines the founders¥ of Chinese medicine and a Japanese deity of medicine, and ever since the 1822 cholera outbreak in Osaka, people have come here to pray good health and recovery from illness.
